Oxenhope Cricket Club News story

Norman Bairstow 1940 - 2019

25 Jan 2019

Norman Bairstow 1940 - 2019.

It is with great sadness that the Club has to inform you that Norman Bairstow , a great club servant passed away on the 15th January 2019 after a sudden illness

Norman was a well known local sportsman playing at Oxenhope & Haworth at both cricket & football before taking up the ,more leisurely sports of Golf at Branshaw & bowls at Haworth in later life . Norman was a fast bowler and handy batsman at Oxenhope, a fierce competitor but always game for a pint and a laugh after the game.  Many will know him for his sports shop in Keighley , something he started from scratch and turned into a successful business at a time when Willis Walker was the only sports shop in town.

His sharp wit and gravelly voice will be sorely missed at the club on a Saturday afternoon when latterly he regularly called for his tea after bowls, sometimes  to watch his grandson Joe continue the family tradition that Graham & Duncan had done previously.

Norman's funeral will be held at Cross Roads Church on Friday 1st February 12.15pm

RIP a loyal club man and great friend to all .
